Tracking Matt's Progress

Matt and I decided that it'd probably be helpful to him for me to set up a "tracker" as he treks along the eastern part of the US on the Appalachian Trail. As he wanders, I will post about where he is and how much more he has to go, and maybe a little detail about where he is. If I get real tech-saavy, I may even include a map. Once he starts to set an average, we'll then project a possible time of reaching Katadin, and if you're interested, set up a pool to bet when he'll finish because I know we're all hopeful that he will indeed finish (as I know he is the most)!! I'm rooting for him to make it to Katadin by early October, giving him a full 6 months to hike the trail. Though of course, I'm hopeful that he finishes a lot sooner. ;)

Some factoids about the Trail:
The average hiker takes roughly 5-6 months to complete the full Appalachian Trail, though only 10%-12% of those that try it succeed in attempting the full hike every Summer. The trail is typically in season mid-March through mid-October, when the National Park that Katadin stands so majestically in closes for the Winter.

Here's to finishing it! Good Luck Matt!!

First mobile post

Seeing how delightfully lackluster my phone is as a  blogging tool. Most journal entries will be videos or video gear reviews or me crying desparately under a sleeping bag during any of the possible unfortunate events that might be ahead. Hope this will serve to inspire and educate hikers and plebians alike ;). I'm both excited and intimidated by the task before me. This is big.
